Mumtaz Yildirimlar
Mumtaz, founder of MY Production Limited, is currently in the process of qualifying as a solicitor as an individual. Alongside managing his company, he is studying and has naturally developed extensive legal experience through real-world situations and the intersection of film distribution, production services, and the complex agreements and conflicts that frequently arise in the film and TV industries. Over time, he has built deep expertise in providing consulting services on film distribution and compliance, finding the overlap of law and media a truly fascinating journey. Once admitted as a solicitor, this division of his work will operate officially in conjunction with his company or with law firms that work with freelancers, but treated separately, offering filmmakers independent guidance on distribution-related legal and compliance matters. To be continued…
Distribution Agreements
Mumtaz helps with potential conflicts with pre-existing agreements and plays a proactive role in reviewing contracts before filmmakers sign new distribution deals. He helps identify risks that could endanger a filmmaker’s rights and suggests modifying agreements through mutually agreed conditions, ensuring that new deals protect your interests and avoid clashes with prior commitments.
He provides technical guidance on compliance issues, including regional DVD/Blu-ray encoding, VOD and international release territories, and certification regulations. For example, he identifies and mitigates risks associated with DVDs or Blu-rays released as region-free (Region 0), which can unintentionally breach agreements in other territories. He also ensures compliance with BBFC regulations for physical media sold in the UK, a detail often overlooked by international distributors outside of the UK who release physical media assets and sell them through UK online and stores, including .co.uk domains.

Copyright
In addition to preventative guidance, Mumtaz actively assists with copyright disputes, reviewing contracts from all parties to challenge unfounded claims and defend your distribution rights. His hands-on approach ensures that releases in various territories are properly protected and that agreements are executed correctly. He is often responsible for delivering films to major platforms and possesses extensive knowledge of the compliance requirements for the deliverables process. Mumtaz also manages copyright claims and, when necessary, issues takedown notices to protect filmmakers’ rights.
Through this service, Mumtaz bridges the gap between practical distribution expertise and guidance on legal and compliance matters, providing filmmakers with clarity, protection, and confidence before signing any distribution deal.
